"MONTY PYTHON'S MORE NAUGHTY BITS"
Monty Python's More Naughty Bits is a CD-i title which features a video selection of 17 famous Monty Python sketches, drawn from the television shows as well as the four Python films and one of the German "Fliegender Zirkus" television episodes. As an interactive title, viewers can easily skip to specific tracks (no more searching through those VHS tapes for the Nudge, Nudge sketch). The European disc also allows the viewer to activate French, German, or Dutch subtitles (of course thats useful! Don't be silly.).
The disc, as well as the two subsequent CD-i titles reviewed below, was designed and coded by Daedalus CD-i Productions of Amsterdam, Holland. The disc has been available in Europe since 1994 and was released in the United States this past October 1995.
Die-hard Python fans could argue for days (and often have) about which sketches are true classics and which tracks should have been dropped from this CD-i to make room for others. But most of the good ones are here, including the "Dead Parrot" sketch, "Ministry of silly Walks," the "Spanish Inquisition," and the "Argument Clinic." Also included, for the first time on commercial media, is the "Das Bayerisches Restaurant Stück" from the 1971 German "Fliegender Zirkus" episode (English subtitles included).
Perhaps the only thing missing from this disc are some of the Terry Gilliam animations. However, the cover artwork and the disc on-screen main menu borrow quite generously from Terry Gilliam's artwork. One criticism of the disc has been the user-interface, which takes a bit of getting used to. Also the disc does not offer freeze-frame or frame advance. The title was recently released in the United States and sells for $29.98. "Entertainment Weekly," an American entertainment magazine, did not give the disc favorable reviews last October, giving it a B-minus for lack of interactivity.
