COMEDIANS TO PAY TRIBUTE TO SPIKE MILLIGAN
IN CHANNEL 4 SHOW
John Cleese, Robin Williams and Michael Palin will pay tribute to Spike Milligan in a TV special.
The latest edition of Heroes Of Comedy features 83-year-old Milligan talking about his battle with mental illness.
The one-hour show will be screened on Channel 4 on March 2 at 9pm.
John Cleese says the cast of Monty Python owe a lot to Milligan and The Goon Show.
"It's hard for people now to remember just how stuffy and correct and deferential English society was in the '50s," he says.
"But with The Goon Show there was the first flicker of rebelliousness that turned into the satire movement. He nudged us forward to be even crazier than we were intending to be."
Michael Palin says Milligan's Q sketch show was a "great inspiration" while Robin Williams describes The Goon Show as "pure madness."
