In a poll of 4,000 British movie fans conducted by video rental giant Blockbuster, John Cleese's rant demanding ‘What have the Romans done for us?’ has been named the funniest movie scene of all time. The poll results were announced 20 December.

Another Monty Python classic, the Black Knight scene, also made the top 10, at number 8.

In a statement, Steve Foulser, of Blockbuster UK, said: “All these scenes are absolutely hilarious – but it’s good to see a British flick at the top of the charts as we are world famous for our comedy.

“The Monty Python crew deserve this recognition because their humour has stood the test of time."
